So, what is TASC anyway?
The Alliance of Sector Councils (TASC) is
a coordinating body formed of some 29 sector councils. Sector
councils bring together representatives from business, labour,
education,
and other professional groups in a neutral forum in order to comprehensively
and cooperatively analyze and address sector-wide human resource
issues.
Our mission

and other relevant organizations
- To collectively carry out sector council
decisions of common interest
Our guiding principles
- Respect the legal responsibilities of
incorporation
- Access members' expertise and resources
- Involve Human Resources Development Canada
- Get the continued feedback of councils
on issues and concerns
- Avoid duplication of individual councils'
work and responsibilities
Our criteria to determine if we will take
on a particular issue
- Support from the members
- Usefulness of the output to councils
- Importance to the collective of councils
- Enabling councils to address issues of
common interest
- Resources are available
- Priority for future action
Our core functions
- To share information internally among
the members, including Annual General Meetings, general membership
meetings, special theme/issue meetings, confirming information
priorities, and developing a web site for internal communications.
- To communicate and promote externally
the value of the sector council approach to human resource development,
including a communications plan, developing information sheets
on sectoral issues, developing mailing and contact lists, launching
the incorporated TASC, upgrading the web site for better public
use, using the web for alternative labour market and human resource
strategies, arranging meetings with appropriate other stakeholders,
establishing links to other relevant bodies and organizations,
and developing a sectoral presentation kit for general industry
use.
- To identify, conduct and disseminate research
and analysis relating to the sectoral approach to human resource
development, and negotiating for resources to carry out the research.
- To administer the secretariat and national
office of TASC, consistent with the by-laws of incorporation and
the priorities of the members, and negotiate funding for the operations.
TASC operates within the by-laws of incorporation,
approved by Industry Canada. It has a board of directors of six
voting and two non-voting members. The general membership includes
26 sector councils.
TASC operates primarily with the funding
support of Human Resources Development Canada. It will from time
to time enter into contracts for research, facilitation and services.
