APPENDIX D

Essential Skills Profile

INTRODUCTION

What are essential skills?

Essential skills are found in virtually all occupations. They may be viewed as 'enabling' skills that help an individual perform required job tasks, but they are not necessarily 'the job' itself. Essential skills may also provide the foundation for learning more specific occupational skills. These skills can include reading, numeracy, problem solving, oral communication, computer skills, working with others and continuous learning.
