Preface
This document is intended to be a helpful guide to small business
owner/operators. In its entirety, it may appear overwhelming. Do
not let the content intimidate you. As one committee member explained,
all the areas covered in the guidelines are important, but no one
person can do it all perfectly. Owner/operators should ask questions,
get help and try new ideas.
Owner/operators involved in the development of these guidelines
suggested that they be used as a checklist, referring to the various
areas as the owner/operator requires. All areas are important, but
importance will vary depending on where in the life-cycle your business
is. Some owner/operators may choose to hire someone else to complete
some tasks. In that case, the guidelines can serve as an evaluation
tool to ensure the contractor is meeting expectations.
All those involved in the development of this document hope it
will help you achieve excellence in your business.
