In Canada's system of government, the 10 provincial and 3 territorial governments each have their own specific labour laws and requirements and their own educational systems. As a result, the qualifications needed to practice an occupation and the training programs available may be different in each province or territory.
Approximately 15% of occupations in Canada are regulated (to practise these occupations, one must obtain a licence, usually granted by a provincial or territorial organization). The majority of occupations in Canada are non-regulated occupations (no licence is needed to practice these occupations).
