• About this website

Gateway to Careers is a practical resource for anyone and everyone who is considering career options.

While most career guides focus on describing occupations, this website fills a crucial information gap by providing details about the employment needs and career outlook in key industries in Canada’s economy.

Gateway to Careers gathers in one place essential information on careers in over 30 sectors. The website provides a current snapshot of each sector and describes the working conditions, range of occupations, and skills and training required in the sector. Links are provided to provincial and territorial resources and other career guides, and to resources that have been developed by individual sector councils.

How this website can help you

Knowing about career opportunities in each industry is especially important in these changing economic times. Sector councils are the organizations that have the latest career information in their industries—they know what skills are in demand by employers in their sectors.

Use this information to make your career choices or to decide on the best options for training or re-skilling! Browse through the site to see the wide range of occupations available in each industry and explore the possibilities for career mobility and advancement both within and across sectors.

    TASC Logo

Gateway to Careers is an initiative of The Alliance of Sector Councils (TASC).

TASC is a coordinating body for some 37 sector councils and sector-like organizations that bring together representatives from business, labour, education, and other professional groups in a neutral forum to comprehensively and cooperatively analyze and address sector-wide human resource issues on a national scale.

The sector councils wish to thank LASI World Skills for their contribution to this initiative.

LASI World Skills is a coalition of Ottawa-based Local Agencies Serving Immigrants (LASI) that promotes the skills and talents of New Canadians while responding to the needs of the local labour market. LASI World Skills gathered input from immigrants and immigrant service agencies across Canada on the design of this website.
