Developing Resources for Internationally Trained Workers

  • The following are examples of sector council work in developing resources for internationally-trained workers.

BioTalent, the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council, and the Information and Communications Technology Council are collaborating with the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) in ACCC’s Canadian Immigration Integration Project, a project that helps immigrants to Canada prepare for employment in Canada while completing final immigration requirements in their countries.

The Canadian Automotive Repair and Service Council welcomes internationally-trained workers to assess their skills at www.carsability.ca to help them identify any professional development that would enhance their success when integrating into the Canadian workforce.

The Construction Sector Council has produced a publication, Foreign Credential Recognition: How Do I Find Out? An analysis of information available to immigrating tradespersons http://www.csc-ca.org/pdf/CSC_FCR_phase1_E.pdf

The Information and Communications Technology Sector Council has produced Canada’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector Resource Guide for Internationally Educated ICT Professionals http://www.ictc-ctic.ca/en/content.aspx?id=412, which provides an overview of useful resources to assist Internationally Educated IT Professionals in researching and finding out more about Canada, about the ICT sector and the ICT labour market in Canada.

The Alliance of Sector Councils (TASC) delivered a workshop entitled Passage to Canada – the Immigrant Experience & the Role for Sector Councils. The purpose of the workshop was to explore how sector councils can assist internationally-trained workers in their integration into the Canadian labour force. Click here for the workshop report.
