Credential Assessment Agencies

There are five provincially mandated credentialing service organizations:

• In Alberta: International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS). IQAS also provides credentialing services for the province of Saskatchewan.
• In British Columbia: International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES).
• In Manitoba; Academic Credentials Assessment Service (ACAS).
• In Ontario: World Education Services (WES).
• In Quebec: Service des évaluations comparatives d'études (SECE).

These five provincially-mandated credential assessment services belong to The Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada (ACESC). ACESC members provide accurate and comprehensive information on the comparability of foreign qualifications with Canadian education systems to various clients (employers, professional regulatory bodies and educational institutions).

In Ontario, two other organizations provide assessment services in addition to World Education Services Canada:

• Comparative Education Service (CES) evaluates academic credentials obtained outside Canada for employment purposes. A Canadian educational institution may or may not accept this evaluation for the purposes of admission.
• International Credentials Assessment Service (ICAS) of Canada evaluates credentials from all levels of schooling for both employment and educational purposes. Its web site provides information on fees and the evaluation process as well as an application form.
